Stony Brook Parallel Ocean Model

US East coast test case

The test case is a real application of the sbPOM. It is for demo only. The model domain covers the east coast of U.S and extends into the Atlantic Ocean. The monthly mean outputs of temperature and salinity from the SODA reanalysis project SODA reanalysis project (University of Maryland) for January 2008 are used to initialize the test case. Monthly mean winds and temperature and salinity at the open boundaries from the SODA reanalysis project for January and February 2008 are also used to force the test case. The open boundaries allow perturbations generated inside the model domain to leave it without deterioration of the solution and allow physically important external information to advect inward using an advective scheme. Monthly mean to temperature and salinity from the SODA reanalysis project for January and February 2008 are also used to restore the model temperature and salinity fields.
