Validation and demonstration of enrichment strategies for finfish AQUAculture to REACH stakeholder

The goal of the AQUAREACH project is to design, demonstrate and validate environmental enrichment strategies for Gilthead seabream and European seabass, throughout their life cycle and production stages and in the most common production methods. To achieve this goal, we have devised 6 main objectives:
I. Design and develop Environmental Enrichment (EE) strategies for seabream and seabass aquaculture;
II. Test the effect of EE through welfare assessment protocols and selected OWIs (lab scale);
III. Validate the effects of EE in relevant systems (production stage / system scale);
IV. Demonstrate how EE can be implemented in commercial systems (farm scale);
V. Disseminate results within stakeholders: workshops, courses, training, knowledge transfer;
VI. Communicate to society: social media, website, general media, videos, policy briefs.
Our ambition is to deliver environmental enrichment strategies (i.e. products and protocols) that are validated and ready to be adopted by the industry. We aim to reach TRL 7: system prototype is demonstrated in operational environment.
