IMEDEA participates in the recognition ceremony for the Severo Ochoa and MarĂ­a de Maeztu Centers of Excellence Accreditations

On September 6th, the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) was recognized during the awards ceremony for the Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu Accreditations, granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (MICIU) through the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI). The event, presided over by the Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities, Diana Morant, took place at CaixaForum in Madrid.

IMEDEA received the accreditation and the María de Maeztu Center of Excellence seal for the 2020-2024 period, a distinction that was accepted by Dr. Anna Traveset on behalf of the institute.

During the ceremony, Diana Morant highlighted the importance of these accreditations, emphasizing that they are "a recognition from our country to these institutions for the impact of their research on the well-being of citizens, their contribution to the development of a competitive and innovative industry, and their ability to attract both national and international research talent." She also noted that these distinctions, granted by the Government of Spain through the AEI, represent "the highest recognition for centers and units of excellence, awarded after an extremely rigorous evaluation process."
