IMEDEA launches a new call of the Program for Scientific Dissemination and Culture (PECI) for schools in Mallorca
The Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA CSIC-UIB) has launched a new call for its IMEDEA Science Education Program (PECI), an initiative aimed at offering a valuable educational resource on science to schools all over Mallorca in the field of scientific dissemination. Aimed at primary and secondary school students, the PECI aims to promote scientific knowledge and research culture among young people.
This program, which started in May 2024, is part of IMEDEA's main mission: to transfer scientific knowledge to society and to deepen the understanding of the environmental processes that affect both the planet and the species that inhabit it. Through innovative educational activities, the PECI aims to integrate science into school curricula, reinforcing learning and fostering curiosity among students about key topics such as the environment and biodiversity.
The launching of this program is possible thanks to the recognition of IMEDEA as a “María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence”, which has allowed us to open a new line of work focused on the educational environment. Through playful and participatory methodologies, the PECI activities are designed to stimulate the development of scientific competence, while focusing on their understanding of the role of science in the conservation of life on Earth.
This initiative represents a unique opportunity for students from Mallorca to get to know science in a practical and participatory way, encouraging their involvement in the discovery of scientific phenomena that influence their natural environment.
With the PECI, IMEDEA reaffirms its commitment to education and scientific dissemination, bringing research and knowledge to the classroom in order to build a society that is more informed and aware of the value of science.
