Global Change refers to the impact of human activity on the functioning of the Earth System including those local or regional activities having
a global impact, which may finally affect the Earth System.
The Department of Global Change Research aims at understanding these processes in order to empower
society to anticipate and react to Global Change challenges. Research on Global Change requires interdisciplinary approaches and critical mass.
The Department of Global Change Research includes physicists, chemists and biologists conducting research on climate,
metereology, ecology, chemistry, biogeochemistry, oceanography, and limnology.
The department’s activity is articulated within the broader context of the CSIC Global Change Research Axis, including international laboratories and postgraduate training activities on Global Change.
Carlos Duarte leads the deparment as well as the CSIC Global Change Research Axis
and coordinates the CSIC-UIMP Master Program on Global Change.
