PRESTATION DATATION

The age and growth rates of marine organisms are determined based on the study of the microstructure of calcified tissues as otoliths, scales, internal skeletons, among others.

The determination of the age in biogenic carbonates requires a specific infrastructure that allows the extraction, preparation, observation and analysis of the samples. The Fish Ecology Lab has all the necessary equipment; thus, there is available equipment to include, cut and polish calcified tissues in order to obtain thin sections. These are observed and analyzed through the use of several stereomicroscopes, optical microscopes (including UV light), digital image systems and image and data analysis programs that allow applying the most modern methods in the field of sclerochronology.

This Prestation includes 2 Variants with different rates according to the workload and consumables involved:

Annual: interpretation and counting of seasonal rings

Daily: interpretation and counting of daily increments
