IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) spreads Balearic science on the 1st Maremostra Film Festival
Mallorca, 8th May 2012. The Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA), a joint research center from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), will collaborate with scientific outreach at the 1st International Film Festival of the Oceans ”MAREMOSTRA“, which will take place from yesterday, May 8, to Saturday May 12 in Palma. The aim of this participation, says the IMEDEA’s director, Beatriz Morales, focuses on “promote and bring the scientific excellence culture produced in our institute to the whole Majorcan society and international participants of this new cultural event”. The activities IMEDEA brings to this cultural initiative will take place from Wednesday to Friday. It will be debates about monitoring and conservation of bluefin tuna, fishery and consumption of fish in the Balearic Islands, and the research at the poles. “It is essential the society knows science from a first-person point of view, not only through cinema or science fiction. This is why we collaborate and why we will continue supporting research and scientific culture in the Balearic Islands”, concludes the director of IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB).
