Esporles, January 31, 2018. The objective of this talk is to give a broad picture of the thermocline circulation in the Atlantic Ocean, pointing at the major pathways that have already been identified and those that are yet poorly known.

For this purpose, I will provide a summary of the subantarctic waters entering the South Atlantic Ocean, the transfer of subantarctic and South-Atlantic waters to the tropical ocean, the equatorial jets and tropical/subtropical cells, the subtropical thermocline circulation and shadow zones in both hemispheres, and the quite different character in the fate of western boundary currents in the South and North Atlantic Oceans.
