Consortium for Biomechanics of viscoelastic flagella

The objective of the proposed work is to build an international research consortium involving
groups from the CSIC, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), University of Bristol
(United Kingdom), and University of Utah (United States) that will address fundamental studies
in the behavior and motility of plankton and microbes, especially those where the interactions of
their flexible, deformable structures with their surrounding fluid environment affects their behavior
and role in the ecosystem. The four groups all have expertise in flagellar elastohydrodynamics
with particular emphasys on aspects of plankton and microbiological motility and behavior.
