Workshops on capture-recapture analyses 2019

04/08/2019

  • This year the workshop will consist of two courses: one 'Introductory', from November 26 to 29, 2019 and other 'Multievent', from December 2 to 4, in Esporles, Mallorca (Spain)
  • The professors are researchers from the Animal Demography and Ecology Unit of IMEDEA (UIB-CSIC) and CEFE-CNRS

Esporles, August 5, 2019. The IMEDEA Animal Demography and Ecology Unit (UIB-CSIC) (GEDA) will teach the “CAPTURE-RECAPTURE ANALYSIS 2019” workshop that this year will consist of an 'Introductory' course, which will take place from November 26 to 29, 2019 and a 'Multievent' course, which will take place from December 2 to 4, both in Esporles, Mallorca (Spain).

Introductory course:

This introductory course aims to introduce students, researchers and environmental managers to the theoretical and practical aspects of the capture-tag-recapture and recovery data analysis to estimate survival, recruitment and dispersion probabilities. The course is based on theoretical classes and practical sessions with real and simulated data. The course format will be a combination of lectures and computer lab exercises with the MARK, U-CARE and R programs (optional). No prior knowledge of these programs is needed.

Multievent course:

The objective of this course is to provide participants with a solid background in the theory and practices of capture-recapture analysis with a specific emphasis on multi-event data and models. Multievent models are a natural generalization of multistate models. Contrary to multistate models, uncertainty can be incorporated into the analysis. For example, multievent models are able to deal with uncertain information on animals reproductive status, health status or causes of death. They can be used to address sensitive issues of epidemiology, conservation and hidden biological processes (e.g. heterogeneity of capture). The workshop format will be a combination of lectures and computer lab exercises with the E-SURGE (or R2ESURGE) and U-CARE programs. No previous knowledge is needed, although experience with CMR data and R programming will be useful.
