High participation in the first course on ai and raspberry pi for automatic object classification offered at IMEDEA

21/05/2024

The first course dedicated to introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to various scientific disciplines and handling the Raspberry Pi, offered by IMEDEA and taught by Arancha Lana and Pau Enric Serra, concluded successfully, offering participants a valuable combination of theory and practice. during the course, attendees acquired fundamental knowledge that allows them to combine both technologies for automatic object classification.

Theoretical content

The course included theoretical modules on:

  • Neural networks and AI: participants explored the fundamentals of neural networks, essential for AI algorithms. they learned about image preparation and deep learning network training.
  • Raspberry Pi: basic concepts of single-board computers, particularly the raspberry pi, were introduced. the content covered basic programming and various automatic applications such as motion sensors, time-lapse, and video recording.

Practical content

The practical aspect of the course was equally enriching, with sessions dedicated to:

  • Image preparation: various techniques for image preparation, crucial for AI network training, were taught.
  • Programming with raspberry pi: attendees developed skills in programming the raspberry pi for image acquisition.
  • Technology integration: participants practically applied the combination of AI and raspberry pi, achieving automatic object recognition.

As part of the practical activities, attendees moved to the lateral agora to take photos of dolls in different environments. this exercise allowed them to test the acquired knowledge, and the neural network developed during the course correctly identified most of the objects used. this activity not only facilitated practical understanding of the concepts but also demonstrated the effectiveness of the learned technologies.

in summary, this course provided a comprehensive understanding, both theoretical and practical, of integrating AI and raspberry pi for automated tasks, equipping attendees to develop innovative projects in these areas.
