Sílvia Pérez Mayol
I got a Bachelor of Science in Biology (2002), at the University of the
Balearic Islands (UIB) and my first contract at IMEDEA took place in 2007. I am in charge of the Sclerochronology Lab of the Analytical Chemistry and Sclerochronology Service at IMEDEA, which gives technical support to both inhouse and external (national and international) researchers. My work is focused on determining the age and the chemical composition (trace elements and stable isotopes) of fish otoliths and other
calcified tissues. I use marking and microscopy techniques, together with micro-chemical techniques such as LA-ICPMS and Solution Based-ICPMS (supported by the micro-milling technique).
Part of my work also includes the preparation of samples for analysis, participation on sampling campaigns, updating of bibliographic data, maintaining datasets or writing technical reports and scientific articles.
