Think Tank Series concludes its second edition: 'PESCA VIVA: Collaborating Towards a Sustainable Future'
On December 12, 2023, the Maritime Museum of Mallorca Ses Voltes hosted the second event of IMEDEA's Think Tank series, 'PESCA VIVA'. With almost 50 participants from various sectors, including public administration, professional and recreational fisheries, non-governmental organizations, and the scientific research community, the event provided a collaborative platform to address pressing challenges in areas such as stock sustainability, management, climate change, and digitization.

The day kicked off with a museum tour led by director Albert Fores, followed by presentations. Isabel Camacho Soguero (Secretaría General de Pesca, MAPA) discussed the inclusion of the Balearic Islands in the National Network of Knowledge Spaces for Blue Growth, followed by Antoni Grau Jofre (Direción General de Pesca, GOIB) outlining the local government’s initiatives for fishery management. The cycle of presentations concluded with scientific insights into the state of professional and recreational fisheries by Ignacio Catalán Alemany, Hilmar Hinz, and Josep Alós Crespí (IMEDEA), along with Manuel Hidalgo Roldan (IEO).
Transitioning into the dynamic phase of the day, participants divided into four working groups, each exploring a distinct topic under the guidance of experienced moderators: "Understanding Perspectives", "Communication and Collaboration", "Technological Advances", and "Climate Change and Environmental Impact".
The day concluded with a plenary session where moderators shared the most salient points, problematics, and concerns from each group, paving the way for a comprehensive report that will be soon made publicly available.
The 'PESCA VIVA' event was a success, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among diverse stakeholders committed to addressing critical marine ecosystem issues.
The Think Tank series is an initiative of the programme of excellence ‘Maria de Maeztu’ of IMEDEA, grant CEX2021-001198 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.
